2018 LADY CLUB CHAMPION
Inverleigh Ladies have more winners
What a week, 15 of our ladies have just returned from competing in the Trimax Victorian Women’s Sand Green Championship which was held this year at Maldon Golf Club.
Oh boy what a course! very short, but hilly, so don’t underestimate the difficulty … the legs had the hardest workout, and several of the fairways we were hitting blind.
This event is 36 holes run over 2 days, 18 holes both days, and there were 113 players in the field.
Therefore we were so proud of our ladies especially 4 of them who were in the group of trophy collectors.
Our champion this year was Isobel Oliver who won the Best 36 holes ‘B’ Grade with scores of net 67, 68 (135). Issy is following on from a great win of Best 36 holes overall nett a couple of years ago, where she was then in ‘C’ Grade, so congratulations Issy on climbing up a Grade and winning again.
Our other lovely surprise great winner was Angela Rogers who won Best 18 holes ‘C’ Grade on the second day with a smashing 65 nett. Ang only started golf this year and achieved getting her handicap down to the level of entry for this championship. Congratulations Ang, wonderful effort and you have now joined the winners circle.
We also had 2 clever ladies who managed to win a NTP, now this was a great achievement, landing on the green was one thing, getting the ball to stay on was the trick. As the course was so hilly, the balls would roll and roll, so well done to Lesley (Wally) Johns and Ann Waayers.
The ladies achievements were all very pleasing, the final results in the top 20 of each section looked like this –
‘A’ Grade Gross & net – 3 in the top 20 Lesley Richardson, Sascha Bruenjes, Rhonda Fatone.
‘B’ Grade Gross – 2 players – Isobel Oliver and Lesley Johns, in the nett section – 3 Isobel Oliver, Sandra Hofmaier and Lesley Johns.
‘C’ Grade Gross and nett – 3 players, Robyn Erwin, Angela Rogers and Sue Lamb.
Over the full field on 113 players, we had 5 of our ladies in that top 20, not a bad achievement from our small Club.
The fun and camaraderie that exists in this small club is something we are very proud of. Congratulations to all who tackled this course and looking forward to next year when it will be in Avoca. The photo … Ann Waayers, Angela Rogers, Lesley Johns, Isobel Oliver.
Amazing Stableford Win on Remembrance Day 2017
Did Tommy on 38 pts have the Remembrance Day Stableford Round win in his grasp or did Russ think that 44pts would snatch the win… But they did not count on a seasoned veteran of the Inverleigh Golf Club Graeme “Dad” Moroney who rolled them both with an amazing 52 Stableford points. Graeme a long serving member in his Eighty’s who recently underwent heart surgery blitzed the scrapes with his deadly putting skills. He did not even bother to scrape on several holes as he was confident with his putting style see photo’s. Well Done Graeme.
INVERLEIGH LADIES “ROSE BOWL”
On Monday 16th October Inverleigh Ladies held their annual ‘Rose Bowl’ challenge match in beautiful warm sunny conditions.
There were 42 players (14 teams) competing for the ‘Bowl’, the course was in great condition after the good rain falls in winter and early spring.
The scrapes were running true after a great effort from our very small band of men who do all the volunteer work on the course.
On this day we always have a produce stall, everything homemade, home grown, and our ladies own craft works. The money raised from the stall and the raffle we hold each year is donated to a worthy cause.
This year it was a favorable decision to donate the takings to GATEWAYS SUPPORT SERVICES, who support and assist people with a disability.
Our choice was an easy one, it was in memory of one of our very much liked members – Vicki Renick, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Vicki had been a member of this organization along with her husband Bruce for 20 or more years. At the time of Vicki’s passing she was the president of GATEWAYS.
Bruce Renick addressed the players during lunch and gave us an insight into the work of GATEWAYS. At the close of the day the profits had not yet been completely balance for me to give an exact amount, we do know it was at least $500.
Thank you Bruce for your help today around the course, for your information about Gateways, and we hope the proceeds will help in a small way.
The results of the day were :
Rose Bowl winning team was Inverleigh, the players were Lesley Johns, Dianne Morgan and Rhonda Fatone with a score of 104, runners up were Portarlington 101.
A Grade winner – Sue Gregory (Lara) 39 pts.
A Grade runner up – Liz Alston (Winchelsea) 37 pts. On a c/back from Lesley Johns
B Grade winner – Liz Hendy (Clifton Springs) 37 pts on a c/b from Chris Cunningham (Portarlington)
B Grade runner up Chris Cunningham 37 pts.
NTP 15th – Glenise Stevens (Inverleigh)
A big thank you to Robyn Erwin from Leigh Valley Roses for her sponsoring our special day, the winners all receiving a Rose Bush to brighten up our gardens.
Our thanks to all the ladies who participated, our day would not be successful without you.

Ella Rogers (Inverleigh Junior Member) takes out 2017 Yarra Yarra Junior Open Title.
Ella Rogers ( one of our Junior members) played at the prestigious Yarra Yarra Golf course in Melbourne on Wednesday and took out the 2017 Yarra Yarra Junior Open title with an incredible 47 Stableford points. Deb Nicholls was lucky enough to be caddying for her and stood back and watched some amazing golf by Ella. She also played at Lara Golf Club on Tuesday where she had another win with 45 Stableford points.
Well Done Ella.
Water Roster Notice
All members, the General Committee are keen to get a watering roster system going again this summer to keep the tees in great condition.
Last summer this was carried out, but the tees were extremely dry when we started, this year they are still in rather good green condition. We need to give them a regular drink, possibly once a week to keep their condition up.
If anyone has this time to help out, most of them take about 45 minutes – 1 hour to empty the 1000lts from the tanks beside the tees. As membership is small, so many hands are required.
A few of the men will be rosted to refill these tanks on a weekly basis, so we can use as many volunteers as possible to help with the water task.
Some people have their own portable tank which can be filled at the river and then spread on the tees, this most certainly helps the men who have to refill the tanks, as there will be less tanks to require filling. Also it saves on our supply of water in the large tank in the carpark.
If anyone can please assist in this project, can you please advise David Brown 0448 945 069 or 5265 1663 or Rhonda Fatone 5281 5525. Also advise us if you have your own tank that can be used.
If sufficient people assist, there will only need to be one tee allocated to each person. In some cases where there are two separate tees (i.e. mens and ladies e.g. 4th), it would be good to have just one of these to water per person also.
Thank you in advance.
Winners are Grinners
Congratulations to T. Lee, J. Nicolle, S. Wemyss from Inverleigh Golf Club and G. Stiles from Clifton Springs Golf Club that came together to form a team to win the Bannockburn Golf Club Ambrose Event on Sunday the 14th of November. A 6 under par score was enough to win on a countback.

LADIES CLUB CHAMPION 2016
The Ladies Club Championship was finalised this week under very windy and difficult conditions. The format is 3 rounds of stroke play.
The Lady Club Champion for 2016 is Deb Nicholls
Congratulations to our two winners.
Mandy Buckley Foursomes Championship 2016
On Monday 26th September SWDLGA conducted the ‘Mandy Buckley Foursomes Championship’ at Barwon Heads Golf Club.
Inverleigh were pleased to have 4 pairs competing in this event, and even more thrilled to see 2 of these pairs come home winners.
The club are very proud of these 4 ladies on such a great achievement, especially at Barwon Heads, it can be a very tricky course. Congratulations ladies, great results, keep it going.
VICTORIAN LADIES SAND GREEN CHAMPIONSHIP 2016
The Victorian Ladies Sandgreen Championship was this year hosted at the Bannockburn Golf Club (South Western District), where 93 ladies participated.
The event is a 36 holes stroke event, conducted over 2 days. The weather was perfect to say the least, 20 degrees both days, no wind on the Wednesday, but it gathered momentum by Thursday.
Wednesday was a multi tee start at 8.00 with half the field, but their start was delayed 20-30 minutes due to thick fog, this cleared into a beautiful sunny day for the players. The other half o f the field had a multi tee start scheduled for 12.00 but due to the delay in the morning, they hit off about 12.30.
Thursday was a multi tee start at 9.00 for the full field of 93 players, credit must go to all the ladies as the field moved very well indeed with everyone finished just after 1.00pm.
Golf Victoria were very quick to correct score cards and be ready for presentations by 2.30.
In the past several years Inverleigh Ladies have always come home with someone being successful trophy wise, some years more than one of our ladies is in the mention, and this year was no different.
Glenise Stevens was our real ‘star’ this year, Glennis has been playing for about 3 ½ years and has really come a long way, she had to get her handicap down to be eligible to compete and she did that, and continued to reduce even more so.
The event has sections for each day (18 holes) plus overall 36 holes, this is a difficult task to take off a 36 hole event, meaning the players need to play consistent golf for both days (or an extremely good day to go with a not so good day). Glenise rose to this challenge with having scores of 105-37-68 and 102-37-65, this gave her the ‘C’ Grade 36 holes Nett title for 2016. Congratulations Glenise a fantastic effort, doubled with the fact you have been playing for such a short time.
Lesley Johns was our other major winner, Lesley won ‘B’ Grade best nett 18 holes on the Thursday, with a score of 90-20-70. Lesley is no new comer to winning events at this tournament, she has been to approximately 25 of these championships and come home a winner on many occasions. Congratulations again Lesley.
There is a minor event played (Mini Teams) each day of the championship and on the Thursday 3 of our ladies won this. Again all new golfers – Isobel Oliver, Glenise Stevens and Helen Gaylard. Congratulations to the 3 of you.
I feel these ladies may still be walking around with grins on their faces, they were so chuffed with the results, and so they should be. There were 16 ladies from our club playing this year, something our small club is extremely proud of, all the ladies are keen, love the game and the support and encouragement from one another. One wins, we fell like we all win, the camaraderie is so strong.
By Thursday evening, a gathering of us all at a quiet location …… for a few celebration drinks, a lot of laughter and discussion of the 2 days events, was just how we love to close of the Victorian Ladies Sandgreens each year.
Wedderburn look out ….. we will be at your Club in 2017.
INVERLEIGH TEAM WINS “Noel Tanner Salver”
On Monday 5th September Inverleigh Ladies had 3 teams playing at Bannockburn in their ‘Noel Tanner Salver’, this event has been running for approximately 12 or so years and we have never been successful so far …… that is until this week …. Woo hoo.
Our No. 1 team consisting of Ann Lynch, Rhonda Fatone and Helen Gaylard were the successful winners with a score of 103 stableford points.
Helen Gaylard is one of our ‘newies’ she has been playing golf on a regular basis with us for approximately 2 ½ years and has really got the hang of it now. Helen was the anchor man in this team with 39 points. Ann Lynch 36 and Rhonda Fatone 28.
Well done team and let’s give it another shake next year.
